How I use AI
I use artificial intelligence in my writing, research, and software development because I believe it can help me learn faster and build more useful products. I use AI to brainstorm ideas, organize research, explain difficult concepts, write and revise code, debug problems, and explore possible solutions.
At the same time, I want to be clear about how AI is used on this website. Some pages and papers contain content that was generated by AI and is not human-authored. This may include the ideas, structure, wording, or a combination of these parts. When a page is primarily generated by AI, I want the reader to know that instead of assuming every sentence was written by me.
For example, the Identifying Tell-Tale Patterns of AI-Generated Writing paper is primarily generated by AI and is not human-authored.
How I disclose it
AI-assisted work is different from work that is primarily generated by AI: in the first case, AI helps me with a task; in the second, the content itself comes from AI.
When AI meaningfully contributes to a page, I will make that clear on the page.
I also use AI to help me draft communication, but I do not use it to send messages or speak as if it were me.
In software development, I believe AI is most useful as augmentation rather than replacement. It can help developers handle repetitive work, learn unfamiliar concepts, and solve difficult problems, but it does not remove the need for system design, critical thinking, or responsibility. I discuss this more in AI Helping vs. Replacing Software Development.
What remains my responsibility
AI can be useful, but it can also make mistakes, create unsupported claims, and produce code or writing that needs improvement. Because of this, I still need to review the material, check important information, test software, and decide what should be shared. Using AI does not remove the need to learn the subject or take responsibility for the final work.
My goal is to use these tools honestly and responsibly. I want AI to help me become a better student, developer, and builder, not prevent me from understanding what I am doing.
In conclusion, this page exists to make my use of AI clear. I believe AI can help people create and learn, but its use should not be hidden when it meaningfully affects the work.
If my use of AI changes, I will update this page.
In order to practice what I preach, I hereby declare that I used AI to help me create this page.
